What to Send to a Bag Manufacturer Before Sampling

Written for designers, first-time founders, and indie brands across Europe

Why the brief matters

A custom bag sample is only as clear as the information behind it. If the brief is vague, the sample room has to guess. A clear project brief reduces wasted rounds and helps a manufacturer review feasibility before quoting.

The minimum useful brief

Include product type, target user, main function, what the bag must fit, reference images, rough dimensions, material direction, target quantity, budget range, and timeline. A full tech pack helps but is not required to begin.

How rough dimensions should work

If exact measurements are not ready, share a range and a capacity target. For example: fit a 14-inch laptop, hold 70 passports, or stay under roughly 28 cm width. This gives the sample team a physical target.

Budget and quantity

Share sample budget, expected production quantity, retail target, and timing. These details help choose between stock materials, custom hardware, waterproof construction, or a simpler first sample.
