How to Describe Bag Material Needs | ProtoBag
Describe bag material performance through use, feel, structure, and function without needing to know technical fabric names before sampling.
Describe the job before naming the fabric
You do not need a technical textile name to start a useful bag material brief. Explain where the bag will be used, what it will carry, how often it will be handled and whether it should feel soft, structured, light, padded or easy to wipe clean. Separate requirements from preferences: water resistance, abrasion resistance or load support may be functional requirements, while a matte appearance or a particular hand feel may be visual preferences.
Use reference images carefully
Reference photos help communicate colour, texture and overall impression, but do not prove fibre content, coating, thickness or supplier availability. If you have a physical reference bag or swatch, send photos with dimensions and explain which characteristic should be matched. ProtoBag can coordinate available options during a confirmed project, but exact materials and factory-specific advice cannot be guaranteed during an early inquiry. Final suitability is validated through paid sampling and physical review.
A concise material brief
Include product type, intended use, expected load, desired feel, structural level, surface appearance, must-have performance, colour direction, estimated quantity and your clearest references. This keeps the brief practical without making it unnecessarily technical. Continue with stock versus custom materials, materials and construction and what to send before sampling.
